Getting ready for some saltwater action as spring approaches on the Mid-Atlantic Coast.  I also procured a new Large Arbor Battenkill Big Game Reel for my 10wt.  Can't wait to test out the depth charger fly line.

"No Trout" Issue - Blood Knot Magazine

We are proud to announce the second issue of BK dropped last night!!  You can check it out at Blood Knot Magazine Volume I, Issue II.  Be sure to bookmark the site at http://bloodknot.net/.  This latest issue contains goods that any die-hard bug slinger will appreciate.   This issue is packed with real stories about real fisherman.  Oh yeah, I almost forgot the incredible photography! As the title suggests, it's mostly about targeting atypical query.  And if all that weren't good enough, there are two stories in this issue from yours truly:  the first is a story about fly fishing for slab sized bream back home in GA with my wife Amber; the other is an article about the 2nd Annual Flying Mako Tournament out in San Diego - very cool stuff!

Gulf Coast Vacation

Over an extended weekend, Amber and I took a long overdue trip down to the Gulf (absent of the company of children). The weather cooperated, we stayed at a solid hotel for cheap, and got a little downtime to relax. It has been a longer than I can remember since either of us slept in until 10:00AM. I swear, I am going to live on the coast one of these days.

Asside from the phenominal fresh sea food, we got to spend time walking the beach, taking in a sunset, and even sneaking in a little fishing. We rented a beamy 21' Center Console boat for a day for only $175 thanks to the off-season rate. This was a great decision as there is probably no better way to experience the Gulf than from the deck of a boat. Fishing was a little tough this trip due to the strong breeze, but we took time to make it a learning experience for Amber. She is becoming a very solid little fly caster. I hope this will turn out to be just one more love we can both share for a life time.

Fishing Trip Pensacola and Gulf Shores

The family and I took one of our bi-annual trips to the gulf last week for some R&R and some intense Fall saltwater and flyfishing action. Our Destination was Orange Beach in Gulf Shores just off Perdido Key. My Mom, Dad, Sister, Bro-in-law, Niece, and his Mom came along too. It was a crew and we made it happen.


As with most vacations, this one was way too short, but we had a great time just the same. The weather was beautiful but because the Pensacola Bay was stained from all the rain to our North, our fishing trip would take us offshore. This was a great call by Capt. Baz Yelverton of Gulf Breeze Guide Service, who was a stand up guy and a master of the sport. Check out the pics. I think you'll agree it was a good day to be alive.
