Casting Lines with Dad

While visiting family and friends back home in Georgia over Easter weekend, I got to take my dad fly fishing.  It was great to get away, just the two of us, and spend some time on the water. Dad's never really done much fly fishing, so I took a chance and told him to leave the conventional tackle behind.  Upon arrival at the lake, we spent the first 30 minutes or so getting his cast in order and then we pushed off in my 12ft jon boat.  It was a beautiful day, the conditions were ideal, and the fish were cooperative.

We probably caught 20 or so fish in about two hours between us but more importantly, we were spending quality time and relaxing as family.  Dad caught some really huge bream and we ended up staying out past dinner time trying to close out the day with one more fish each (which we both heard about later but it was totally worth it).  I think Dad really enjoyed himself and I was excited to see him picking up the sport I'm so passionate about.  Looking forward to another adventure soon.

  1. Those are giant sunfish! Looks like a wonderful trip.

  2. I don't get to spend much quality time with Ben any more because of the long distance, but this past weekend was GREAT! Who knows I might give up that reel & rod and start fly fishing! The fishing trip was great, but the time spent with my son was even better.
